Song of the Day #2,510: ‘Honey, I’m Good’ – Andy Grammer

andy_grammerContinuing my coverage of the current Billboard Hot 100, I arrive at #11 and an entry from Andy Grammer, a name that’s new to me.

The picture on the right suggests a frat-guy Harry Connick Jr. vibe and Wikipedia describes his genre as pop rock and blue-eyed soul.

The lyrics to this track are cute, depicting the singer’s refusal to let temptation get the better of him when confronted by an attractive woman at a bar. Nice to see a song celebrating monogamy, even while acknowledging that the woman he’s refusing has “got that ass.”

Now, the big question: Is the song itself any good?

Well, that was cute as hell. I’m sure this video (with its nearly 13 million YouTube views) has contributed to the chart success of the song.

Very catchy tune, incredibly sweet video.

[Intro]
Na, na, honey, I’m good
I could have another but I probably should not
I got somebody at home, home, home, home

[Verse 1]
It’s been a long night here
And a long night there
And these long, long legs
Are damn near everywhere
Hold up now
You look good, I will not lie
But if you ask where I’m staying tonight
I got to be like

[Chorus]
Oh baby, na baby
You got me all wrong, baby
My baby’s already got all of my love
So, na, na, honey, I’m good
I could have another but I probably should not
I got somebody at home
And if I stay I might not leave alone
Na, honey, I’m good
I could have another but I probably should not
I got to bid you adieu, to another
I will stay true (x3)

[Verse 2]
Now, better men than me have failed
Drinking from that unholy grail
Now check it out
I got her and she got me
And you got that ass
But I kindly got to be like

[Chorus]

[Bridge]
Oh, I’m sure you, sure you will make somebody’s night
But oh, I assure you, assure you it sure as hell’s not mine

[Chorus x2]

I hadn’t seen the video before. My knowledge of this song first came through American Idol, where it was performed more than once, including with Grammer as guest, by the eventual winner, Nick. I was not a Nick fan, but I suspect this infectious tube, which he performed fairly well. May have contributed to his Idol victory.

I like Andy Grammer a lot, as I discovered each time a tune would come on that I was loving and singing along with only to once again discover it was Andy Grammer, a name I could somehow never come to associate with the two songs I was so enjoying.

    “Keep Your Head Up” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CmrOB_q3tjo
is the first song I couldn’t get out of my head whenever i heard it. Bet you’ve heard this one, too! 🙂

And “Fine By Me” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rplmd1afK5U is the other. Never saw any of the videos before this morning, but I see that they all have an equally cute vibe.

When I saw that he was coming to perform (at Hard Rock, I think), I actually considered going based on how much I always enjoy his music when it comes on the radio. Then I remembered… I’m pretty much done with concerts 😉

Still — glad to see Andy Grammer get his due on your blog!! And I’ve finally remembered his name! 🙂
