Song of the Day #2,094: ‘Flashbulb Eyes’ – Arcade Fire

arcade_fire_reflektorHere is one of the sillier songs from Arcade Fire’s 2013 album, Reflektor, which as a whole is a pretty silly record.

This song is pretty basic (there are only about 25 words in the whole thing) and it contains the same theme as much of the band’s recent work — the dehumanization of technology. When we all live on and in front of screens, what does that say about humanity?

It’s a worthwhile topic, and one served better in other songs of theirs.

But in this one, I just can’t get past the grammar of the first (and only) verse: “What if the camera really do take your soul?”

What if it do, Win Butler? What if it do?

[Verse]
What if the camera
Really do
Take your soul
Oh no
What if the camera
Really do
Take your soul
Oh no

[Chorus]
Hit me with your flashbulb eyes!
Hit me with your flashbulb eyes!
You know I’ve got nothing to hide
You know I got nothing
No I got… nothing

[Verse]

[Chorus x2]
