This track, from Lyle Lovett’s 1994 album I Love Everybody, runs two minutes and 20 seconds. It probably took Lovett about 30 seconds more than to write it.
I Love Everybody is half a great album and half a forgettable one. It is made up of songs written before the release of Lovett’s first album, so you’d expect it not to contain his best work, yet it does feature quite a few gems.
Among my favorites are ‘Fat Babies,’ ‘Creeps Like Me,’ ‘Record Lady’ and ‘Penguins.’
On the flip side are several songs, such as today’s SOTD, that just kind of sit there. Lovett, of course, is always nice to listen to. His voice is consistently wonderful and his backing musicians are without equal. But a song like this just doesn’t have any meat on its bones.
And you on my mind
I will lay down
I will lay down
With the moon on my shoulder
And you on my mind
And I miss you more than I ever did
Lord ever did
They said that time would take care of it
Take care of it
I wish time would take care of me
With the moon on my shoulder
And you on my mind
I will lay down
I will lay down
With the moon on my shoulder
And you on my mind
With the moon on my shoulder
And you on my mind
I will lay down
I will lay down
With the moon on my shoulder
And you on my mind
Yes, I agree totally with your assessment of this album and this song.
Very impressed with this song. Sometimes Lovett sings a little too sweetly for me or the emotion is too overbearing but this hit the mark. I’ll get the album momentarily.
