When I first started the Random Weekend series, I had visions of my kids’ music showing up week after week. Not just the songs they listen to these days (which are mostly by artists I listen to as well) but the artists they’ve listened to over the years.
Laurie Berkner, Raffi, The Wiggles… that sort of thing. Now, you may ask why I still have those albums in my iTunes library now that my daughters have moved on to other things, and that would be a very good question for which I don’t have a very good answer.
I simply find it difficult to delete anything from my music library, whether I like it or not. A single bad song takes up almost no space on my hard drive and doesn’t impact my life or anybody else’s in any way, so why should I kill it? Who knows… one day I might get a phone call from somebody offering me a million dollars only if I have track six from the Raffi in Concert album readily available, and won’t I feel like an ass if I’d just deleted it?
Anyway, despite my fears, this Big Time Rush song is the first of my daughters’ songs to show up over several months of Random Weekends. I haven’t heard any of Big Time Rush’s music apart from the TV series, but I have to say I like these guys. Their show is funny in a ridiculous, anarchic sort of way and they’re not afraid to make fools of themselves.
Children’s TV is so much better than it was when I was young. My kids have about a dozen shows on the DVR and almost every one is amusing enough that I’ll happily sit through them as well. Wizards of Waverly Place, Big Time Rush, Good Luck Charlie and Victorious are some of my favorites. But Jesse sucks… don’t let anybody tell you different.
Rollin’ past graffiti walls,
Billboards lighting up the block
Everyone of us on a mission
Got my whole crew by my side
Cars beep, beep when they pass us by
Now its time to get down to business
[Logan]
We pull up, open the door
All the girls, scream there they are
It’s packed from wall to wall
And, everybody is calling
Here they come, it’s almost time
Feel the rush, now hit the lights
We gonna get it all started
[Chorus:]
Because the night is young
The line is out the door
Today was crazy but,
Tonight the city is ours
Live it up
Until the morning comes
Today was crazy but,
Tonight the city is ours
[James]
My, my look how we roll
Was it only a month ago
Everybody said we were dreaming (ooh ooh)
Now we’re here like, yeah we told ya
Still far, but we’re that much closer
And there ain’t no way that we’re leaving (oh no)
[Logan]
We pull up, open the door
All the girls, scream there they are
It’s packed from wall to wall
And, everybody is calling
Here they come, it’s almost time
Feel the rush, now hit the lights
We gonna get it all started
[Chorus:]
Because the night is young
The line is out the door
Today was crazy but
Tonight the city’s ours
Live it up
Until the morning comes
Today was crazy but tonight
The city is ours [2x]
[James]
We gotta believe
Its destiny calling
So night after night
We rock the whole place out
As hard as it seems
I know if you want it
Then it’s gonna happen some how
[Chorus]
Because the night is young
The line is out the door
Today was crazy but
Tonight the city’s ours
Live it up
Until the morning comes
Today was crazy but tonight
The city is ours [4x]
[Kendall]
The city is ours
When you started talking about reasons not to delete kid’s songs, I thought you were going to list the possibility of having another child,😃 Perhaps that is as unlikely as the million dollar offer for the Raffi track.😄
I haven’t caught Jesse to comment on it, though the opening song is rather catchy. I do agree though that the other shows you mentioned are well done,
Blythe way, I could add today’s song to the list of crappy tunes about generic cities😉
My first thought was that you wanted to have the songs available when you were watching your grandkids 😉 Yes, I agree that kids’ tv today is far better than it once was though I don’t know if I’ve seen more than five minutes of this show. “Shake it Up” is the “Jesse” of our house, as the kids HATE that show. I still have a soft spot for iCarly 🙂
Yes, the Raffi offer is more likely than another kid!
I’m ambivalent to Shake It Up, though the muppet face on that Zendaya girl is a bit disconcerting.
I like Jesse more now because one of Darren Criss’ best friends, Joey Richter is starting to have more guest roles on it. Also the diversity of the cast is pretty nice (although it feels somewhat forced… not sure why) Anyway I enjoy Big Time Rush a lot, although I find most of their songs very repetitive. They are catchy though 🙂
I like the use of the word “forced” by Maddie. 🙂
