Song of the Day #5,285: ‘Daydreaming’ – Harry Styles

Guest blogger Daniel continues his countdown of the year’s top albums…

Best Albums of 2022 – #6
Harry’s House – Harry Styles

Much like the general population, I didn’t think much of Harry Styles when he was one of the five members of the wildly popular boy band One Direction. I mean, it’s easy in retrospect to hear how he stands out from the rest on almost every one of their tracks.

However, it wasn’t until ‘Sign of the Times’ that I perked up my ears and truly listened. This breakout single immediately established that Styles wasn’t going to be conforming to any of the conventions of mainstream pop radio that he had already been casually dominating with 1D. Rather, his journey as a solo artist would be one centered on the art.

Song of the Day #5,276: ‘Satellite’ – Harry Styles

My Favorite 2022 Albums
#3 – Harry’s House – Harry Styles

Has a boy band ever produced a better solo career than that of Harry Styles? Set aside the Jackson Five and The Beatles — those aren’t the sort of boy bands I’m envisioning. I guess an argument can be made for Justin Timberlake, who has released a handful of platinum-selling albums following his NSYNC days. But I’m not much of a fan.

Styles, on the other hands, has consistently impressed me as a solo artist.

Song of the Day #5,268: ‘Songbird (Live)’ – Harry Styles

Apparently Harry Styles also felt that ‘Songbird’ was a fitting tribute for the late Christine McVie, because he performed the song during a concert in Chile last week.

Song of the Day #5,141: ‘Late Night Talking’ – Harry Styles

Continuing my ‘What the Kids are Listening To’ roundup of the latest Billboard Hot 100 chart…

Rounding out this week’s top ten are two songs I’ve already featured. At #9 is Beyoncé’s latest single, ‘Break My Soul,’ which peaked at #7 before falling back two spots. Despite her legendary status, Beyoncé hasn’t had a #1 solo single since ‘Single Ladies (Put a Ring On It)’ in 2008. We’ll see if Renaissance, released a few days ago, breaks that streak.

Song of the Day #5,134: ‘As It Was’ – Harry Styles

It’s time for another installment of ‘What the Kids are Listening To,’ wherein I feature the songs currently topping Billboard’s Hot 100. It’s been a few months since my last foray into the charts, so I hope to discover some new tracks.

In the #1 spot for the third straight week is ‘As It Was,’ the lead single from Harry Styles’ third album, Harry’s House. ‘As It Was’ has spent 10 weeks in total at #1, reclaiming the top spot three more times after debuting there in April. This is Styles’ second #1 hit, following ‘Watermelon Sugar.’
