Song of the Day #5,236: ‘Take Me Out’ – Franz Ferdinand

Continuing my look at the albums of 2004…

Scottish alternative band Franz Ferdinand released their self-titled debut in 2004 to great success in both the United Kingdom and the United States. The band emerged as one of the leaders of the post-punk revival, alongside such acts as the White Stripes, The Strokes and Arctic Monkeys.

My appreciation for this genre is inconsistent. I’ve enjoyed some of the White Stripes albums, and I do like the idea of muscular but melodic music in general, but I don’t count any of these bands among my favorites.

Song of the Day #3,031: ‘Demagogue’ – Franz Ferdinand

franz_ferdinandI’m not sure when Dave Eggers and Jordan Kurland pitched the idea for 30 Days, 30 Songs, their anti-Trump web project. Based on their lyrics, the songs I’ve posted so far could all have been written and recorded as far back as the Republican primary.

But today’s selection, by Franz Ferdinand, is hot off the presses. The lyrics reference Trump’s “pussy grabbing fingers” and their glorious takedown introduction references news from the second presidential debate.
