Song of the Day #5,146: ‘Yayo’ – Lana Del Rey

‘Yayo’ is a track from Lana Del Rey’s 2012 EP Paradise, released less than a year after her breakthrough album, Born to Die.

This is actually the third release of this song. It first appeared on a 2008 three-song EP titled Kill Kill under Del Rey’s given name, Lizzie Grant. The same version showed up on Del Rey’s self-titled full-length debut, released in 2010 but subsequently removed from circulation.

Song of the Day #5,145: ‘Glimpse of Us’ – Joji

Wrapping up my two-week dive into the Billboard Hot 100, we have The Kid LAROI & Justin Bieber at #15 with ‘Stay,’ a song that was at #2 when I did this back in November of 2021. ‘Stay’ has been on this chart for more than a year now and continues to hang out in the top 20. Impressive.

Closing things out at #16 is ‘Glimpse of Us’ by Joji. I haven’t read about or listened to this song yet, so I’m in that nice realm where I have no idea what to expect. Rap? Country? Electronica? Whatever it is, at least it doesn’t feature Drake.

Song of the Day #5,144: ‘I Like You ( A Happier Song)’ – Post Malone feat. Doja Cat

Post Malone has become quite the hitmaker since dropping his debut album six years ago. The rapper/singer has had four #1 hits in that time, and another seven in the top ten.

His latest is ‘I Like You (A Happier Song),’ the third single from his Twelve Carat Toothache album. This breezy track, a duet with Doja Cat, peaked at #9 and this week sits at #14 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Song of the Day #5,143: ‘Tití Me Preguntó’ – Bad Bunny

We have another repeat artist today, as Bad Bunny sits at the #13 spot with ‘Tití Me Preguntó,’ another of the four singles from his Un Verano Sin Ti album to reach the top six. This track peaked at #5 before falling out of the top ten.

This song is a bit more interesting, musically, than the last Bad Bunny track I featured. It has some twists and turns and a pretty sick beat.

Song of the Day #5,142: ‘Wasted On You’ – Morgan Wallen

Country star Morgan Wallen owns the #12 spot on this week’s Billboard Hot 100, with ‘Wasted On You,’ a song that peaked at #9. Another track from Wallen’s most recent album has also reached the top ten, making him the rare country artist to see consistent success on this chart.

My knowledge of Wallen extends only to the headlines. First it was the cancelled SNL appearance due to his breaking COVID protocols in the week before the show. Then it was him getting caught on tape using the n-word during a drunken night out with friends. Not a good look.
