Song of the Day #5,675: ‘Karma’ – Taylor Swift feat. Ice Spice

The 27th most popular song of 2023 marks the third appearance of Taylor Swift on the year-end Hot 100, which is actually a pretty modest showing for an artist who had one of the most celebrated years in history (including becoming the first entertainer named as Time’s Person of the Year).

I’ve already featured ‘Karma’ on the blog (well, guest blogger Daniel did), but that was the album version. The version on this chart is the remix featuring Ice Spice, so I’m cleared to post it today.

The #25 song of last year, according to Billboard’s Hot 100, was Lil Durk’s ‘All My Life,’ already featured on the blog.

Song of the Day #5,673: ‘Sure Thing’ – Miguel

Song of the Day #5,672: ‘Thank God’ – Kane Brown with Katelyn Brown

The #23 song of 2023, according to Billboard’s Hot 100, is by yet another country bro. Kane Brown teamed up with his wife Katelyn to deliver ‘Thank God,’ a syrupy love ballad, and ended up with a crossover hit.

Katelyn is an R&B singer herself, though with a far less prominent profile than her husband. This song was her first to chart.

Song of the Day #5,671: ‘You Don’t Know My Name’ – Alicia Keys

Throwing back to the week of January 10, 2004, we find that Outkast held a stranglehold on the top of the Hot 100. Their singles ‘Hey Ya!‘ and ‘The Way You Move‘ occupied the #1 and #2 spots, respectively. Kelis’ ‘Milkshake‘ was at #3.

Careful readers might remember this was the same top three when I last threw back to the 2000s three weeks ago.
