When Lana Del Rey’s fifth album, Norman Fucking Rockwell, dropped, I decided to rank its 14 songs shortly after my first listen.
My initial impressions of any work are always subject to change quite a bit with repeated exposure, but I stand by most of these opinions — if not the exact order — all these years later.
Here, I call Norman Fucking Rockwell “possibly her best” album, an opinion that has certainly solidified since — I believe this masterpiece is not only her finest effort (to date) but one of the greatest albums by anybody, ever.
Here’s now I ranked NFW‘s tracks out of the gate (with links to my thoughts on each):
14. ‘Doin’ Time‘
13. ‘Cinnamon Girl‘
12. ‘Fuck it I Love You‘
11. ‘The Next Best American Record‘
10. ‘Bartender’
9. ‘hope is a dangerous thing for a woman like me to have – but i have it’
8. ‘Venice Bitch‘
7. ‘Love Song‘
5. ‘Mariners Apartment Complex‘
3. ‘California‘
2. ‘How to Disappear‘
1. ‘The Greatest‘
