Most of my deep dives cover long careers, but I made an exception for Jim Croce, who released just five albums before his death in a plane crash at age 30.
I’ve always loved Croce’s greatest hits collection and I wanted to learn more about the man who wrote and performed some of my favorite songs.
Croce’s story reveals a man who found success the old-fashioned way, by toiling away at his craft while putting in the hard work of everyday life. He was a loving husband and friend who bristled at the trappings of fame just when he was getting popular.
His musical legacy is brief but quite special.
You Don’t Mess Around with Jim
