Dar Williams

Dar Williams is a fascinating artist in that I am unfamiliar with most of her work — and mixed on much of the material I do know — and yet she has written some of the most inspiring and meaningful songs I’ve ever heard.

At her best, she is a combination of novelist and poet, able to spin meaningful stories about flesh-and-blood people in the briefest of verses.

Here is a collection of my writing about Williams.

The songs that mean the most to me
My 25 favorite songs: ‘After All’
The gut punch of ‘When I Was a Boy’
How ‘When I Was a Boy’ hit harder after having daughters
The song that first hooked me: ‘As Cool As I Am’
Some of her most evocative lyrics: Iowa (Traveling III)’
A song that reads even better than it sounds: ‘End of the Summer’

Every one of my Dar Williams posts…
