In 1971, Harry Nilsson scored a #1 hit with his cover, giving him the only chart-topper of his career. Then Carey scored an international hit with her version, reaching #1 in multiple countries and scoring her biggest-ever hit in Europe. In the U.S., it stalled at #3, leaving her one short of 20 career #1s.
