Closing out this year-end edition of ‘What the Kids Are Listening To’ takes us to #41, where Silk Sonic has its only appearance on the chart with ‘Smokin Out the Window.’
First comes The Weeknd and Ariana Grande, whose ‘Save Your Tears’ was at #39 in 2023 despite being released way back in 2020. That song has some impressive legs.
‘Smokin Out the Widow’ was the third single released from Silk Sonic’s album An Evening with Silk Sonic. I was initially surprised it made this chart while first single ‘Leave the Door Open’ did not, given that the latter track reached #1 and helped the duo enjoy a “clean sweep” at the Grammys. But ‘Leave the Door Open’ was released in March of 2021, meaning it had pretty much run its course before this one dropped in November that year.
So now I have officially, if accidentally, covered the top 41 songs of 2022 on the blog. I’d call that a successful attempt at keeping my finger on the pulse of the modern hit landscape. I’ll aim for the same track record in 2023.
