Song of the Day #5,127: ‘Seven Wonders (Live)’ – Fleetwood Mac

Continuing my list of suggested songs for the next season of Stranger Things

1987 saw the release of Tango in the Night, Fleetwood Mac’s 14th studio album and their second best-selling record (after 1977’s Rumours).

Given the continued relevance and success of Fleetwood Mac, I think the Stranger Things team could do a lot worse than to feature one of their songs.

Tango in the Night produced four top 20 hits in ‘Big Love,’ ‘Little Lies,’ ‘Everywhere’ and ‘Seven Wonders.’ Any one of those tracks could work well in a TV show, but the first three feel a little too adult for a show so steeped in the teenage experience.

But ‘Seven Wonders’ has both lyrics and an overall vibe that feel appropriate for the show. And while the song did show up (along with a Stevie Nicks cameo) in a recent season of American Horror Story, I think that show is niche enough to not have pre-empted the song’s use here.

[Note: Happy Birthday to my mother, who would make her granddaughter Fiona very happy if she started watching Stranger Things!]

[Verse 1]
So long ago
Certain place
Certain time
You touched my hand
All the way
All the way down to Emmiline

[Pre-Chorus]
But if our paths never cross
Well you know I’m sorry but

[Chorus]
If I live to see the seven wonders
I’ll make a path to the rainbow’s end
I’ll never live to match the beauty again
The rainbow’s end
(Aaron)
(Aaron)

[Verse 2]
So it’s hard to find
Someone with that kind of intensity
You touched my hand, I played it cool
And you reached out your hand to me

[Pre-Chorus]
But if our paths never cross
Well you know I’m sorry but

[Chorus]
If I live to see the seven wonders
I’ll make a path to the rainbow’s end
I’ll never live to match the beauty again
The rainbow’s end
(Aaron)
(Aaron)

[Verse 3]
So long ago
It’s a certain time
It’s a certain place
You touched my hand and you smiled
All the way back you held out your hand

[Bridge]
If I hope and if I pray
Ooh it might work out someday

[Chorus]
If I live to see the seven wonders
I’ll make a path to the rainbow’s end
I’ll never live to match the beauty again
If I live to see the seven wonders
I’ll make a path to the rainbow’s end
I’ll never live to match the beauty again
If I live to see the seven wonders
I’ll make a path to the rainbow’s end
I’ll never live to match the beauty again
If I live to see the seven wonders

  1. Dana Gallup says:

In looking at the lyrics to this song, I realized that I never knew Nicks was saying “Emmaline” or “Aaron.” After a quick bit of googling, it seems that Nicks misheard the lyric from the demo (the songwriter was Sandy Stewart), which was either “end of the line” or “held the line.” The word change earned Nicks a songwriting credit on the song. As for “Aaron,” which most people hear as either “Tara” or “Sara,” Stewart’s original title was “Aaron,” who was presumably the object of the song.

At least she got her Aunt and Uncle on board! 🙂
