Continuing my look at 1994, first by counting down my own top ten albums of that year.
#2 – Dulcinea – Toad the Wet Sprocket
I know this is an album I love, because it’s almost tapped out in terms of representation on this blog. Today’s track is the ninth of its 12 songs to feature as a Song of the Day.
Dulcinea is Today the Wet Sprocket’s fourth album, and the first new release after I became a fan of the band. My future wife and I had bonded over our love of their previous album, Fear, and we eagerly anticipated the release of this one.
It didn’t disappoint. Dulcinea remains the best work of Toad’s eight-album, three-decade career. It’s a rich collection of smart alternative pop, blending folk, rock, and country influences into a wholly satisfying work.

I knew if I stuck with this blog long enough I would hear this whole album. 😀
I didn’t notice this album when I did my own search yesterday of all albums released in ‘94. I’ve always enjoyed their sound but knew them more from the songs you placed in mix tapes than from their albums. The only two I discovered in my search that were staples on my CD player but haven’t appeared on your blog are Seal’s album (self-titled, I believe) and Tom Petty’s Wildflowers, which would be an easy #1 and the only one I regularly listen to nearly 30 years later. Otherwise I was stunned by how many albums are released in a given year of which I’ve never even heard let alone listened to.
So glad Wildflowers made the correct appearance on your list! 😜
