The final song in the latest installment of ‘What the Kids Are Listening To’ comes courtesy of Italian rock band Maneskin, who sit at #13 with their cover of the 60s song ‘Beggin’.’
This track was first released by The Four Seasons in 1967 and was later covered by French DJ Pilooski and Norwegian hip-hop act Madcon before Maneskin took their shot.
The Maneskin version has been the most successful. The Four Seasons reached #16 on the Hot 100, while this version is on the rise and might still climb higher than #13.
Maneskin finished second on the Italian edition of The X-Factor in 2017 and won this year’s Eurovision Song Contest with their track ‘Zitti e buoni,’ but neither of those feats landed them in the top ten.
Instead, it was — you guessed it — TikTok.
We can thank TikTok for the most musically diverse edition yet of ‘What the Kids Are Listening To.’ Italian rockers, Nigerian R&B’ers, country, pop, rap, Olivia Rodrigo and Ed Sheeran. So many different perspectives, so many different sounds.
Maybe the kids know what they’re doing.
