Today marks the first appearance of Catie Curtis on the blog, and probably the first time I’ve thought about the Boston-based folk rock artist since I bought this album sometime after its 2001 release.
My memory is fuzzy but I believe it was my wife who discovered Curtis through an NPR interview and suggested we give the full album a listen.
Curtis has released 17 albums since her 1989 debut, including The Raft just last year. Her songs have shown up on a number of TV shows and she performed twice at Barack Obama’s White House.
Curtis’ official website has a section labelled ‘Weddings‘ where she offers her services as an ordained minister. Fans can not only have their wedding officiated by Curtis but enjoy live music by her before, during or after the ceremony.
Why you walked away
Is you were afraid I might leave you
And why didn’t you tell me that the only reason
For the things you’d say
Is you were afraid I didn’t need you
And now that you’ve done everything you could
To make me lose my faith in you
You say, “Come on, believe me”
Now that you’ve done everything you could
To make me lose my desire for you
You say, “Please don’t leave me”
Why didn’t you tell me that the only people
That you push that far
Are the ones that you really love
And why the night we were talking and walking
Under the West Side Highway
Did you say, “This would never ever be enough?”
And now that you’ve done everything you could
To make me lose my faith in you
You say, “Believe me”
Now that you’ve done everything you could
To make me lose my desire for you
You say, “Please don’t leave me”
You try so hard to explain
You try so hard to take the blame
I don’t mind what you say
There’s the line
I can’t stay
Now
I’ve never heard of her, but I like her sound.
