I don’t know much about Stevie Ray Vaughan, but the few minutes I spent reading about him and watching him perform in order to write this post made me an instant fan.
Vaughan is credited with leading the blues revival in the 80s, and is considered one of the greatest guitar players of all time by, well, the greatest guitar players of all time.
As such, he’s a no-brainer for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, and made it in the first time he was nominated, in his sixth year of eligibility.
His career lasted just seven years, including a brief interruption while he battled addiction in rehab, but he managed to release six albums, all of which went platinum or double platinum in the U.S.
He died in a helicopter crash in 1990 at age 35, another in a long line of musical artists who’ve died in air crashes.
Video compilations of his performances make crystal clear what a special talent he was.
In the YouTube comments on one clip, I saw this joke: “Stevie made a deal with the Devil. No one knows what Stevie got, but the Devil got guitar lessons.”
Well you’ve heard about love givin’ sight to the blind
My baby’s lovin’ cause the sun to shine
[Chorus]
She’s my sweet little thing, she’s my pride and joy
She’s my sweet little baby, I’m her little lover boy
[Verse 2]
Yeah I love my baby, my heart, and soul
Love like ours won’t ever grow old
[Chorus]
She’s my sweet little thing, she’s my pride and joy
She’s my sweet little baby, I’m her little lover boyy
[Verse 3]
Yeah I love my lady, she’s long and lean
You mess with her, you’ll see a man get mean
[Chorus]
She’s my sweet little thing, she’s my pride and joy
She’s my sweet little baby, I’m her little lover boy
[Solo]
[Verse 4]
Well I love my baby like the finest wine
Stick with her until the end of time
[Chorus]
She’s my sweet little thing, she’s my pride and joy
She’s my sweet little baby, I’m her little lover boy
[Verse 2]
Yeah I love my baby, my heart, and soul
Love like ours won’t never grow old
[Chorus]
She’s my sweet little thing, she’s my pride and joy
She’s my sweet little baby, I’m her little lover boy
I’m also not all that familiar with Vaughan’s music, but certainly know how well respected he was by critics and musicians, so no issue with his induction into the Rock Hall.
