Song of the Day #4,141: ‘The Bones’ – Maren Morris

The main opening act on Miranda Lambert’s Roadside Bars & Pink Guitars Tour is Maren Morris, who is definitely on the rise. She’ll likely be playing as a headliner starting next year.

Morris made a splash with her 2016 album Hero, featuring the hits ‘My Church,’ ‘Rich’ and ’80s Mercedes’ but had her first major success with the track ‘The Middle,’ a cut by the DJ Zedd that featured her on lead vocals. That song hit #5 on Billboard’s Hot 100 and #1 on the pop chart.

This year, Morris’ sophomore album GIRL was released to rave reviews and strong sales. It blends her traditional country sensibility with healthy doses of pop and R&B. Morris also formed the supergroup The Highwomen with Brandi Carlile, Amanda Shires and Natalie Hemby. Their strong debut album dropped a few weeks back.

So it’s been quite a year for Morris, who has carved out her own niche alongside the celebrated Kacey Musgraves, to whom she has often been compared. Maybe, like Musgraves, she’ll release a third album that blows away critics and fans alike and wins an Album of the Year Grammy.

For now, she should be thrilled to open for Miranda Lambert, who is certainly the modern role model for any young country artist.

[Verse 1]
We’re in the homestretch of the hard times
We took a hard left, but we’re alright
Yeah, life sure can try to put love through it, but
We built this right, so nothing’s ever gonna move it

[Chorus]
When the bones are good, the rest don’t matter
Yeah, the paint could peel, the glass could shatter
Let it rain ’cause you and I remain the same
When there ain’t a crack in the foundation
Baby, I know any storm we’re facing
Will blow right over while we stay put
The house don’t fall when the bones are good

[Verse 2]
Call it dumb luck, but baby, you and I
Can’t even mess it up, yeah, though we both tried
No, it don’t always go the way we planned it
But the wolves came and went and we’re still standing

[Chorus]
When the bones are good, the rest don’t matter
Yeah, the paint could peel, the glass could shatter
Let it rain ’cause you and I remain the same
When there ain’t a crack in the foundation
Baby, I know any storm we’re facing
Will blow right over while we stay put
The house don’t fall when my bones are good
When the bones are good

[Bridge]
Bones are good, the rest, the rest don’t matter (Baby, it don’t really matter)
Paint could peel, the glass could shatter (Oh, the glass, oh, the glass could shatter)
Bones are good, the rest, the rest don’t matter (Ooh)
Paint could peel, the glass, the glass could shatter (Yeah)

[Chorus]
When the bones are good, the rest don’t matter
Yeah, the paint could peel, the glass could shatter
Let it rain (Let it rain, let it rain)
‘Cause you and I remain the same (Woo)
When there ain’t a crack in the foundation (Woo)
Baby, I know any storm we’re facing
Will blow right over while we stay put
The house don’t fall when the bones are good

[Outro]
Yeah, ooh

It does seem like her star is on the rise. It’s always a bonus when you are a fan of the opening act and other featured artists.

Oooh very exciting that you’ll get to see Maren perform too. 🙂 Loved the cover of this song that Hozier jumped on recently.
