This is a timely Random Weekend selection, as 2019 marks the 10-year anniversary of the debut album by power-pop supergroup Tinted Windows.
Made up of Fountains of Wayne’s Adam Schlesinger, Hanson’s Taylor Hanson, Smashing Pumpkins’ James Iha and Cheap Trick’s Bun E. Carlos, the band put out a decent collection in 2009 before apparently disbanding.
A few years ago, Hanson suggested the quartet would record again but to date there has been (literal) radio silence.
You know this is the way it’s meant to be
We got something
Yeah we got something
I believe in me and you
We know just what to say and what to do
We got something
Yeah we got something
Been so long
But I don’t mind
We’ve got love so strong
It blows my mind
It’s a waste of time
T-trying something new
Ooh ooh ooh ooh
I believe there’s no one else
That can touch us when we’re by ourselves
We got something
Yeah we got something
We got
I believe it’s plain to see
I depend on the way you’re depending on me
We got something
Yeah we got something
I believe you sure can tell
It’s a strange combination that’s working out well
We got something
Yeah we got something
It’s been so long
But I don’t mind
We’ve got love so strong
It blows my mind
It’s a waste of time
T-trying something new
Ooh ooh ooh ooh
I believe in you and me
You know this is the way it’s got to be
We got something
Yeah we got something
We got something
Yeah we got something
We got something
Yeah we got something
We got
We got
We got
We got something
A bit loud for a Saturday morning, though I’m not sure I would be a fan at a later hour either.
I can’t say this measures up to anything on “Welcome Interstate Managers”. However, considering I had no idea of the existence of this band before this post, I’m very excited to hear their other output as I’m sure with all those all stars there must be at least a couple great songs. Even with this songs very focused statement of “we got something”, it’s still very clearly got a Fountains of Wayne vibe which is cool to hear intertwined some of the other distinct features of those artists. Thank you for introducing me!
