Low Cut Connie is a beloved Philly-based rock band I discovered just a few weeks ago, though they’ve been recording since 2011. They have a swagger and sound that taps into the great music of the 60s and 70s.
I’m so late to the game on this one that even Barack Obama, who had a lot more going on than me, highlighted one of their songs on his 2015 summer playlist (setting aside all the fundamental, important differences between Obama and Trump, I also miss having a president who was just plain cool).
I downloaded the band’s last few albums and I like what I’m hearing. One song that stood out to me right away is today’s SOTD, from their latest release. It has a distinct Elton John vibe that really works.
I’m down on my knees
You read a paper or watch TV
Don’t even say a single word to me
Talk to me
[Verse 2]
You’re slippin’ away
Sit around a trailer and sleep all day
Somethin’ funny and you just won’t say
It’s not okay
[Chorus]
Beverly
Come on and talk to me
Now that you’re free to try
In the street
You’re shakin’ my self-esteem
Believe in the dream or not
Beverly, yeah
[Verse 3]
I’m screamin’ your name
Bend over backwards while you watch the game
You’re makin’ faces just to feed the flame
It’s such a shame
[Chorus]
Beverly
Come on and talk to me
Now that you’re free to try
In the street
You’re shakin’ my self-esteem
Believe in the dream or not
Beverly, yeah
[Chorus]
Beverly
Come on and talk to me
Now that you’re free to try
In the street
You’re shakin’ my self-esteem
Believe in the dream or not
Beverly, yeah
[Outro]
Beverly
Beverly
I played the song before reading your comment and immediately thought that it sounded like vintage Elton John. That’s good stuff in my book!
I like their sound and I too miss the cool President 😞
I like the way she shuts off the TV as soon as she hears Trump’s voice. The lingerie scenes were not too hard on the eyes also.
