My family went to see Crazy Rich Asians for a second time, and I was just as smitten if not more so. This truly is the finest romantic comedy I’ve seen in a long, long time.
Last week I wrote about the film’s use of a Mandarin version of the Coldplay song ‘Yellow’ in a pivotal sequence. The performer is Katharine Ho, an early loser on The Voice who had left the music business before being tapped for this breakthrough movie’s soundtrack.
Today’s featured song is another cover, this time in English, performed by another little-known singer, California-based Kina Grannis.
Grannis got her start performing on YouTube and won a Doritos Super Bowl contest in 2008 that earned her a recording contract and a commercial appearance during the big game.
Grannis appears in one of Crazy Rich Asians‘ best scenes, performing today’s SOTD in one of the most beautiful weddings ever committed to film.
Wise men say
Only fools rush in
But I can’t help falling in love with you
[Verse 2]
Shall I stay?
Would it be a sin?
If I can’t help falling in love with you
[Chorus]
Like a river flows
Surely to the sea
Darling, so it goes
Some things are meant to be
[Verse 3]
So take my hand
Take my whole life, too
For I can’t help falling in love with you
For I can’t help falling in love with you
This wedding scene was so incredible. I definitely teared up even more upon second viewing. This movie holds up and then some! ❤️
Yeah, great cover. I want to see this movie again, and that’s rare for me.
Need to see this movie soon!
Catching up on some recent blog posts. I loved this scene at the time and was initially thinking of seeing the film again, but it hasn’t worn so well in my memory. Regardless, the song was perfect for the wedding.
