Song of the Day #3,034: ‘Body Language’ – Carly Rae Jepsen

carly_rae_jepsen_side_bOne area in which I’ve refused to go digital is magazine consumption. I download my music and read books on my tablet, but I can’t give up on a flimsy magazine that I can roll up, toss in my car to read at stoplights and stack by the dozens until I finally relent and dump them in the recycling bin.

I know that magazine tablet apps have come a long way and give you essentially the same reading experience, but I don’t want to make that leap. I’ll hang on to this one analog experience.

That said, it is a little frustrating when reading Entertainment Weekly or Rolling Stone describe a new song or artist I’d really like to hear. A good magazine app will put a play button right next to the song title and offer a truly interactive experience. Paper can’t do that.

But I can. So this week and next, I will feature songs from a recent EW article titled ’15 Fresh Songs for Fall.’

Kicking off their list is Carly Rae Jepsen’s ‘Body Language,’ a track from E*MO*TION Side B, her recent supplementary release to last year’s acclaimed album E*MO*TION.

Here’s what EW has to say:

This gooey ’80s-pop homage from Jepsen’s new B-sides collection is the perfect soundtrack for scribbling your crush’s name all over your Trapper Keeper.

I’ve already sung the praises of Jepsen and this album, so I’ll let her take it from here.

[Verse 1]
I think I’m in trouble
I can’t see the end
I call you my lover, you call me your friend
I’m keeping it secret, yeah, even from you
I call you my lover
Oh, what can I do?

[Pre-Chorus]
I’ve been lonely baby
I, I’ve been hangin’ on the line
(Been hangin’ on the line)
And if you love me baby
Don’t, don’t, don’t hang up this time
Ooh

[Chorus]
Body language will do the trick
If you stay with me tonight, then we’ll talk it over
That’s the danger with missing it
I just think we’re overthinking it, I think we’re overthinking it

[Verse 2]
This could be perfect, that we could be free
To do what we wanted, you do it to me
We only just started, don’t say it’s the end
So call me your lover, don’t call me your friend

[Pre-Chorus]
I’ve been lonely baby
I, I’ve been hangin’ on the line
(Been hangin’ on the line)
And if you love me baby
Don’t, don’t, don’t hang up this time
Cause you know

[Chorus]
Body language will do the trick
If you stay with me tonight, then we’ll talk it over
That’s the danger with missing it
I just think we’re overthinking it, I think we’re overthinking it
Body language will do the trick
If you stay with me tonight, then we’ll talk it over
That’s the danger with missing it
I just think we’re overthinking it, don’t think it over

[Bridge]
I just think we’re overthinking it
Don’t think it over
I just think we’re overthinking it
Don’t think it over
I just think we’re overthinking it
Don’t think it over
I just think we’re overthinking it
Don’t think it over

[Chorus]
Body language will do the trick
If you stay with me tonight, then we’ll talk it over
That’s the danger with missing it
I just think we’re overthinking it
I think we’re overthinking it

Amy has also refused to go digital with her magazines, and so the stacks and clutter continue much to my chagrin. I suspect it is just a matter of time before you both surrender to the convenience and benefits of a digital magazine.

Just thought I should throw in that I’m totally on board this Carly Rae Jepsen train. 🙂
