During my final week looking at 1970, I’ll feature albums and bands with which I have very little familiarity. I’ve heard the names, but I’ve pretty much never heard the music.
First up are The Stooges, whose sophomore album Funhouse served as a loud, obnoxious rebuttal to the melodic pop of the 60s.
Front man Iggy Pop drew attention more for his onstage antics than his music. Smearing himself with peanut butter and red meat (well before Lady Gaga!) and cutting himself with glass tends to have that effect.
Based on what I’ve read about The Stooges’ sloppy, anarchic music, I expected today’s SOTD to be a lot less melodic. Sure, ‘Loose’ is guitar-heavy and loud but it has a hint of Rolling Stones whimsy as well.
[Verse 1]
I took a record of pretty music
I went down and baby you can tell
I took a record of pretty music
Now I’m putting it to you straight from hell
[Chorus]
I’ll stick it deep inside
I’ll stick it deep inside
Cause I’m loose
[Verse 2]
I feel fine to be dancin’,baby
I feel fine, I’m a shakin’ leaf
I feel fine to be dancin’, baby
Cause it’s love, yeah I do believe
[Verse 1]
And I’ll stick it deep inside
And I’ll stick it – hey!
Well I’m loose [3x]
Not my cup of tea.
