I don’t know that any of my favorite artists have quite the effect on me that Tift Merritt does.
Maybe it’s the intelligence and humanity in all of our songs, the generosity of spirit, the earnestness and warmth. Maybe it’s her rich, welcoming vocals. Maybe it’s just the fact that she’s the only one of my favorites I’ve met in person, and I’ve met her twice.
Whatever it is, I’m glad for it. I know that, whatever my mood, I can always choose ‘Artist: Tift Merritt’ and set my car stereo on random and get lost in her wonderfulness for hours.
I love it all. Even a paint-by-numbers track like this one.
See the sun rising in the east, welcome warm days,
Feel my heart pounding every time we’re alone, babe.
Everything around me has been changing so,
I can’t let go, oh no.
You must live till you die,
You must fight to survive.
You must live till you die,
You got to feel to be alive.
You must live till you die.
Feel the earth trembling, have you heard distant thunder,
Everything’s moving, what’s this feeling I’m under?
Everything around me has been changing so,
I can’t let go, oh no.
You must live till you die,
You must fight to survive.
You must live till you die,
You got to feel to be alive.
You must live till you die.
I have to spin the spinning wheel, I have to kneel that way.
I have to say the things I feel, I feel the things I say.
You must live till you die,
You must fight to survive.
You must live till you die,
You got to feel to be alive.
You must live till you die.
Where are you driving for hours?😄
Not all in a row. 🙂
I think meeting her in person has something to do with it 🙂
