I’ve written about this before on the blog, but it was almost five years ago so I don’t mind repeating myself.
I discovered Los Lobos’ Kiko at a listening station in a Blockbuster music store just outside of Coral Gables. I listened to a handful of tracks until I’d heard enough to know I had to buy the thing right then and there. That’s what a spur-of-the-moment music download looked like in 1992.
I hadn’t heard any other Los Lobos albums before that, and I haven’t heard another one since. But this record remains a highlight of my collection, my sixth favorite album of 1992 and a collection I would whole-heartedly recommend to anybody, no matter what their musical taste. It’s that good.
Looked around – don’t know what for
Way too bright – could hardly see
Oh no – can’t believe it
Oh yeah – could almost see it
In a dream in blue
I flew around with shiny things
And when I spoke, I seemed to sing
High above – floating far away
Oh no – can’t believe it
Oh yeah – could almost see it
In a dream in blue
In a dream in blue
Sock it to me one time
Woke up laughing in my bed
A silly smile stuck on my head
Am I real or still in a dream
Oh no – can’t believe it
Oh yeah – could almost see it
Oh no – can’t believe it
Oh yeah – could almost feel it
In a dream in blue
In a dream in blue
Because this album received rave reviews, I tried the get into it. For some reason, though, it never stook. Nowadays, if a track pops up randomly on iTunes, I listen and enjoy it, but it still doesn’t drive me to hear more. Can’t explain why that is. It just is.
