Print may be dying, but I still love a good magazine. While I read the newspaper on my tablet, I haven’t been able to make that transition when it comes to Entertainment Weekly or Rolling Stone. There’s just something essential about the portability and disposability of a magazine.
Magazines are also one of my best means of discovering new music. Yesterday’s band, The Mountain Goats, appeared in Rolling Stone. Today’s artist, Wynter Gordon, comes courtesy of Entertainment Weekly‘s ‘Must List.’
Gordon is a songwriter who has penned tracks for Flo Rida, Jennifer Lopez and other artists I avoid. She’s stepping in front of the mic on an upcoming EP and the single release of today’s SOTD, ‘Bleeding Out.’
She released a solo album in 2011 in Australia (though she’s from New York) but didn’t make much of a splash. She seems poised to reach a larger audience this time around.
Today’s track is quite lush. It feels like something a 21st century Sade would record. I kinda love it.
I also love her Tumblr, on which I found this lovely image:
And how does it feel to be my worst but my best?
It hurts.
You got a hold of my heart now
You took a piece and you cut it out
You crawled up under my skin, under my skin
I’m bleeding out
I told you no but I love you
I told you no but I’ll let you
So take the rest of it, all, the best of it
I’m bleeding out
And you say I’m better than her
I’m still nothing to you?
Oh, but if I leave this world I’ve got nothing left to prove
You got a hold of my heart now
You took a piece and you cut it out
You crawled up under my skin, under my skin
I’m bleeding out
I told you no but I love you
I told you no but I’ll let you
So take the rest of it, all, the best of it
I’m bleeding out
And I’m lying on the ground
And I know that our time is running out
And I’m dying to be yours
But I know that our time is over now
You got a hold of my heart now
You took a piece and you cut it out
You crawled up under my skin, under my skin
I’m bleeding out
I told you no but I love you
I told you no but I’ll let you
So take the rest of it, all, the best of it
I’m bleeding out
So please don’t set me free
’cause the only thing I’m afraid of is that you’re not loving me
I know this is sacrilege to you and your family, but as someone who loathes clutter, including the piling up of magazines, I welcome the day when all magazines are available only in electronic form. I suspect that day will come within the next ten years.
As for today’s song, it’s not grabbing me on first listen, though the tumblr image did.😄
I agree with Clay about reading magazines online; don’t think it will happen, I’ll stick with the clutter 🙂 I think you “kinda love” the song because you were influenced by the picture somewhat 🙂
