Continuing the Billboard countdown, I arrive at #7 and our second Fifty Shades of Grey song in the top ten.
This one is ‘Earned It’ by The Weeknd, the man with the inexplicably missing ‘e’ in his name and the worst case of bedhead I’ve ever seen.
This song is ok — certainly better than Elle Goulding’s effort from the same soundtrack — but nothing I ever need to hear again.
The video is more entertaining, especially when Dakota Johnson turns up mostly naked suspended from the ceiling. I’m sure Melanie Griffith hasn’t watched this clip either.
You make it look like it’s magic (oh yeah)
Cause I see nobody, nobody but you, you, you
I’m never confused
Hey, hey
I’m so used to being used
[Pre-Hook]
So I love when you call unexpected
Cause I hate when the moment’s expected
So Imma care for you, you, you
Imma care for you, you, you, you, yeah
[Hook]
Cause girl you’re perfect
You’re always worth it
And you deserve it
The way you work it
Cause girl you earned it
Girl you earned it
[Verse 2]
You know our love would be tragic (oh yeah)
So you don’t pay it, don’t pay it no mind, mind, mind
We live with no lies
Hey, hey
You’re my favorite kind of night
[Pre-Hook + Hook]
[Verse 3]
On that lonely night
We said it wouldn’t be love
But we felt the rush
It made us believe it was only us
Convinced we were broken inside, yeah, inside, yeah
[Hook]
While the video is somewhat provocative, I find the song dull.
Good analysis. If I remember this guy’s name tomorrow I will be disappointed in myself.
