Song of the Day #2,247: ‘Two Weeks’ – FKA Twigs

fka_twigs_two_weeksI pulled all of this week’s Songs of the Day from the ‘Playlist’ page of the latest issue of Rolling Stone. It has steered me toward some great tracks and artists in the past.

I’m not sure I can count FKA Twigs among them.

While I can recognize, on a cerebral level, the appeal of this sort of music, it has never done much for me. This sounds like Kate Bush mashed up with Rihanna but ends up falling short of either of them.

The sexual frankness of the lyrics is eye-opening, though not thought-provoking. I think she needs a little less sex to be sexy.

[Verse 1]
I know it hurts
You know I’d quench that thirst
(I can treat you better than her)
You say you’re lonely
I say you’ll think about it
Cause you’re the only
One who resonates that chaste, mouth open like ahh

[Chorus]
Higher than a motherfucker, dreaming of you as my lover
Flying like a streamer thinking of new ways to do each other
Pull out of the incisor give me two weeks, you won’t recognize her
Mouth open you’re high

[Verse 2]
I know it hurts
You know I’d put you first
(I can fuck you better than her)
You say you want me
I say you’ll live without it
Unless you’re the only
One who instigates, get your mouth open you’re high

[Chorus]

[Verse 3]
Feel your body closing, I can rip it open
Suck me up, I’m healing for the shit you’re dealing
Smoke on your skin to get those pretty eyes rolling
My thighs are apart for when you’re ready to breathe in
Suck me up, I’m healing with all the shit you’re dealing
Motherfucker, get your mouth open you know you’re mine

[Bridge]
I’d put you first, just close your eyes and dream about it
Higher than a motherfucker dreaming of you as my lover
I’ll quench your thirst, just chase the high and stop your doubting
High motherfucker, get your mouth open you know you’re mine

[Chorus]

  1. Dana says:

Yeah, this does nothing for me. I do, however, find the reference to the other woman as “the incisor” interesting.

  2. Andrea Katz says:

Huh? I thought the incisor was a literal reference to the lengths she was willing to go to to create more room in her oral cavity. Then again, some of these poetic references are a bit tricky.
