I’m way behind on blog posts, and out of town on business to boot, so I decided to fill out the rest of this week with a couple of current chart-toppers.
Now, given my complete lack of familiarity with modern radio hits (or however it is the kids get their music these days), that meant I had to do a little research.
A Google search for the current top ten Billboard hits revealed some of the usual suspects (Miley, GaGa, Katy Perry) along with Lorde, whose big hit will be on my year-end list.
But sitting at #4 was ‘Wake Me Up’ by Amicii, an artist I’d never heard of. So I decided to give him a shot.
Amicii is a Swedish DJ who has teamed up with American singer Aloe Blacc to deliver a rousing mix of Mumford & Sons and a techno beat. It’s an unlikely mash-up that works pretty darn well.
Feeling my way through the darkness
Guided by a beating heart
I can’t tell where the journey will end
But I know where to start
They tell me I’m too young to understand
They say I’m caught up in a dream
Well life will pass me by if I don’t open up my eyes
Well that’s fine by me
[Chorus](2x)
So wake me up when it’s all over
When I’m wiser and I’m older
All this time I was finding myself
And I didn’t know I was lost
[Beat Break]
[Verse 2]
I tried carrying the weight of the world
But I only have two hands
I hope I get the chance to travel the world
But I don’t have any plans
I wish that I could stay forever this young
Not afraid to close my eyes
Life’s a game made for everyone
And love is a prize
[Chorus](2x)
[Outro](4x)
I didn’t know I was lost
Rather ironic that, even when writing a blog post under the gun, you still had to do research.😄
I’m surprised this is ranked number 4 on the charts, as I haven’t really heard it on the radio, whereas I have heard all of the other artists and songs you mentioned. Not a bad song, but I’ll take the real Mumford & Sons over this any day.
Give me Mumford and Sons, but I do like this beat 🙂 Meanwhile, Maddie will be tickled to learn that you appreciate Lorde, her new favorite everything.
Does this mean we’ll get to enjoy “Roar” tomorrow? Love that song!!
I LOVED this and the narrative of the video. Thanks to having a teenager in the car, i was exposed to Lorde and loved it too. Cross-generational pollination is a very good thing. 🙂
Liked this song; great beat and sound.
