Song of the Day #1,337: ‘She’s My Kind of Rain’ – Tim McGraw

I think the tiny people who live inside my iTunes library and pick the random songs must be country music fans. Today’s track means almost a third of my Random Weekend selections have been by country artists even though country makes up maybe five or ten percent of my collection.

I have almost as many Bob Dylan songs as I have country songs (and a few that are both) and yet Dylan has yet to make an appearance here. Ah, the whims of chance.

‘She’s My Kind of Rain’ is a nice love ballad from the back half of Tim McGraw’s And the Dancehall Doctors album, one of the first country albums I fully appreciated. I don’t like this song as much as the records earlier tracks but it does its job pretty well.

She’s my kind of rain
Like love in a drunken sky
She’s confetti falling down all night
She sits quietly there
Like water in a jar
Says baby why you trembling like you are

So I wait and I try
I confess like a child

She’s my kind of rain
Like love from a drunken sky
Confetti falling down all night
She’s my kind of rain

She’s the sunset shadows
She’s like Rembrandt’s light
She’s the history that’s made at night
She’s my lost companion
She’s my dreaming tree
Together in this brief eternity

Summer days winter snows
She’s all things to behold

She’s my kind of rain
Like love from a drunken sky
Confetti falling down all night
She’s my kind of rain

So I wait and I try
I confess all my crimes

She’s my kind of rain
Like love from a drunken sky
Confetti falling down all night
She’s my kind of rain

She’s my kind of rain
Like love from a drunken sky
Confetti falling down all night
She’s my kind of rain

She’s my kind of rain
Ohhh, rain on me
She’s my kind of rain

That country music is like a virus!

This is really almost like country-pop—I’m not sure if this song was a single or a hit, but it sure sounds as though it was written with the intent to be.

This one doesn’t do much for me, but I do like Tim McGraw. Funny how the random weekend iPod fairy picked two halves of country’s most popular/beloved couples. Maybe next week we’ll get some tunes by Blake Shelton and Faith Hill. I don’t think Bob Dylan is showing up anytime soon!
