My older daughter, on those morning rides to school, invariably requests ‘I’ve Just Seen a Face,’ the band’s first real foray into country music in their own writing. This is one of my favorite Beatles songs as well.
I remember the first time I heard it… not so much the time or place, which are fuzzy, but the actual experience of hearing it. I remember thinking that the melody was so perfect that I must have heard it before (and I probably had without realizing it). Not to compare Plain White T’s to The Beatles, but I had the same reaction to their ‘Hey There Delilah‘ when I first heard that.
The songs are similar, actually, with hurried, wordy verses and short-and-sweet singalong choruses. I wouldn’t be surprised if Plain White T’s were influenced by this song in writing theirs.

I love this song; it’s sweet and charming and poppy in all the right doses. Not sure if I hear the way it might have influenced “Delilah” directly, but I suppose most artists would happily confess a Beatles influence.
Well, now I see that both kids need a theme week.
This song is really less country, more like a sped up folk song/rock-a-billy. But, hey, as I learned at the county music hall of fame (but also argued previously on this blog), country has many dimensions and influences and, reciprocally, other music forms have influenced country over the years.
Anyway, great song, no matter the genre.
