Song of the Day #495: ‘Go Your Own Way’ – Fleetwood Mac

I have pretty much nothing to say about this song other than that I love it. I suppose that was bound to happen 495 songs into this little endeavor. I just hope it doesn’t start happening more often.

I thought of Fleetwood Mac recently when John Mayer talked about their influence on one of his new songs and, as usually happens when I think about Fleetwood Mac, I remembered how much I love their stuff. And I don’t think I need much more of an excuse than that to feature them on the blog.

So here’s one of my favorite songs from the classic Rumours album.

Loving you
Isn’t the right thing to do
How can I ever change things
That I feel

If I could
Maybe I’d give you my world
How can I
When you wont take it from me

You can go your own way
Go your own way
You can call it
Another lonely day
You can go your own way
Go your own way

Tell me why
Everything turned around
Packing up
Shacking up is all you wanna do

If I could
Baby I’d give you my world
Open up
Everything’s waiting for you

You can go your own way
Go your own way
You can call it
Another lonely day
You can go your own way
Go your own way

When I think of Fleetwood Mac, I invariably think of two things:

    1. Mom loving “The Chain” (to such an extent that it made a lasting impression on me) – I think she was introduced to it in an aerobics class 🙂

    2. Bill and Al, Hillary and Tipper taking the stage to “Don’t Stop,” after it had become not only their election theme song, but the theme song for all of us who were so excited to help elect them. I couldn’t find that clip, but I found one just as memorable:

Today’s song is another great one; I get the feeling many people have a Fleetwood Mac song or two on their lifetime soundtracks.

Listen, buddy, you better start making some more insightful comments if you want to sustain that number 3 ranking of SOTD blogs:)

Anyway, this is a great song on a great album….Hmmmm…maybe that really is all there is to say:)
