Song of the Day #3,759: ‘Best Years of My Life’ – Pistol Annies

Few musical announcements excite me more than word of new material from Miranda Lambert. Lambert is one of the few artists I follow who has yet to release an album that’s less than excellent.

2016’s double album The Weight of These Wings was her best work yet, and that’s saying something given that her previous two records showed up in my top five albums of the first half of the 2010s.

Song of the Day #3,670: ‘Roots and Wings’ – Miranda Lambert

Today’s random SOTD comes courtesy of Miranda Lambert and Ram Trucks. ‘Roots and Wings’ is a non-album single Lambert wrote expressly for the Dodge brand back in 2015.

This isn’t a case of Dodge using a song in a commercial, but a partnership between artist and brand that abandons traditional advertising altogether. The video for this song (embedded below) contains a few Ram Trucks but you’d never know that’s the point. It doesn’t even feature product placement where the camera lingers on the brand’s logo.

Song of the Day #3,371: ‘Mama’s Broken Heart’ – Kacey Musgraves

Our next assignment in the 30 Day Music Challenge is to name ‘A Song That You Love From 2011.’ Not sure why we’re going with 2011, but I guess we should embrace the randomness.

I can’t recall any 2011 songs off the top of my head (the past ten years kind of run together musically) so I turned to Google for help. The biggest song of that year was Adele’s ‘Rolling in the Deep,’ a bona fide juggernaut if ever there was one. I named it as my own top song of 2011 here on the blog.

Song of the Day #3,234: ‘Tin Man’ – Miranda Lambert vs. Bob Dylan

This is the Montauk madness first round matchup I’ve been dreading since I first peeked ahead at the random seedings.

It’s not that the decision between Miranda Lambert and Bob Dylan is ultimately all that difficult (Dylan gets my vote). I just hate to see Lambert exit so early. I adore this woman so much that she should be an Elite Eight or even Final Four contender, but the hand of fate will have her on the sidelines before the games have even begun.

Song of the Day #3,129: ‘Runnin’ Just in Case’ – Miranda Lambert

miranda_lambert_weight_wingsYesterday I wrote that BeyoncĂ©’s Lemonade topped nearly every 2016 top ten list. But it only made it to #2 on mine because Miranda Lambert released her best album yet, continuing her pattern of topping herself with every new release.

The Weight of These Wings is a double album and the first creative output for Lambert since her divorce from fellow country superstar Blake Shelton, and it continues the tradition of great break-up albums.
