Song of the Day #2,321: ‘Riptide’ – Team Gwen

voice_team_gwenMy family took a few years off from watching The Voice but picked it back up this season. I like singing competitions for two reasons: the judges and the chance to hear new songs or interesting takes on songs I already like.

One reason I never watched American Idol (is it still on? I’m not sure) is my complete lack of interest in Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson and Paula Abdul. The parade of weirdos they brought into to replace the departing judges never piqued my interest either.

Song of the Day #2,320: ‘Tentative Decisions’ – Talking Heads

talking_heads_77I’m often shocked to realize how few posts I’ve dedicated to certain artists, even 2,300 songs into the Song of the Day series.

Take today’s Random iTunes Selection, Talking Heads, a band I consider among my favorites. This is just the third appearance by the group in more than five years.

They started off strong, landing the third-ever Song of the Day post. But it was slim pickings thereafter, with only two appearances in the next 2,316.

Song of the Day #2,319: ‘Violet Hill’ – Coldplay

coldplayI haven’t listened to Coldplay’s Viva La Vida since I first bought it six years ago.

I had enjoyed their first two albums, 2000’s Parachutes and especially 2002’s A Rush of Blood to the Head, but 2005’s X&Y was a mixed bag.

Viva La Vida was met with critical raves for the most part, so I had high hopes. But my first listen was quite underwhelming and I never gave it a second.
