Song of the Day #3,887: ‘Sue Me Jack’ – Pavement

This is the third Pavement song served up by the Random iTunes Fairy in the past two years, and not a one of them has been worth a damn.

That might be because the only Pavement album in my library is the extended two-disc version of their celebrated 1992 release Slanted and Enchanted, which contains 49 songs, most of which are outtakes and unreleased tracks.

Perhaps the 14 songs on the original album are really good, but the ones popping up on Random Weekends certainly aren’t.

Sue me Jack, sue me, sue me Jack
Sue me Jack, sue me, sue me Jack
Sue me Jack, sue me, sue me Jack
Sue me Jack, sue me, sue me Jack

I’m, I’m on the left, left side
My, my silhouette can’t be touched
Will you fight?
Will you fight?
Will you fight?
Well I’ve got a right, tonight
Someone’s underneath a knife
Switches lean so fast
It’s fast, it’s fast, and it’s fast

I’m, I’m on the left, face up
My, my silhouette can’t be touched
Will you fight?
Will you fight?
Will you fight?
Well I’ve got a right to earn
Everything in sight is mine
Faced up looking right
On up
Now, now, now, now!
