I listen to a lot of “must hear” songs recommended by websites and magazines, and usually I shrug my shoulders, largely unimpressed.
Every once in awhile, though, I hear something that demands my attention. ‘True Love’ by Vancouver singer-songwriter Tobias Jesso, Jr., is a recent example.
Jesso hasn’t released a full-length album yet, just a couple of demos uploaded to his YouTube channel. The other one, a song to a newborn daughter, is even better than this one.
Jesso sounds like solo John Lennon, or Elliott Smith on piano rather than guitar.
Given that these are demos, I’m curious to see if he carries the same vibe over to his studio recordings. I hope so.
He don’t own nothin’ new
Well he ain’t cheap
He just can’t afford to
But she don’t mind
He’s her everything
“anything for you”
Everyday
Just trying to get by
No time to cry
No he can’t afford to
And she waits
Through everything
“Anything for you”
CHORUS:
That’s what you call true love, true love, true love, true love
That’s what you call true love, true love, true love, true love
Workin’ late
Cuz she never finished school
She ain’t a fool
She just didn’t like it
Why he don’t mind
She’s his everything
“Anything for you”
Everytime
She tries to fight
Well she knows he’s right
She’d just been lied to
And he waits
Through everything
“Anything for you”
CHORUS:
That’s what you call true love, true love, true love, true love
That’s what you call true love, true love, true love, true love
She wants to know
Do you do you do you want me
He wants to know
Do you do you do you want me
She’d love to know
Do you do you do you love me
He’d love to know
Do you do you do you love me
She needs to know
Do you do you do you need me
He needs to know
Do you do you do you need me
Like I need you
CHORUS:
That’s what you call true love, true love, true love, true love
That’s what you call true love, true love, true love, true love
This is particularly impressive given that, at least according to the picture on the video, he’s about 7 years old.😄
May I assume you are saving his better song for a daughters theme week?
