I figured that after dozens of Beatles Weekends posts, I would have featured ‘She’s a Woman’ before now, but apparently not.
This early bit of R&B, penned and performed by Paul McCartney, was released as the B-side of ‘I Feel Fine’ and features a minimalist backing track under Paul’s yearning vocals.
This was one of the first Beatles songs I heard that was new to me when I first started getting into the band.
I knew all (or most of) the major hits but not the second tier. I remember hearing this one, instantly liking it, and having this sense of the wonderful discoveries I still had in store.
Maybe I didn’t really thing in those terms at the time, but that’s how I remember it.
My love don’t give me presents
I know that she’s no peasant
Only ever has to give me
Love forever and forever
My love don’t give me presents
Turn me on when I get lonely
People tell me that she’s only
Fooling, I know she isn’t
She don’t give the boys the eye
She hates to see me cry
She is happy just to hear me say
That I will never leave her
She don’t give the boys the eye
She will never make me jealous
Gives me all her time as well as
Loving, don’t ask me why
[Chorus 2]
She’s a woman who understands
She’s a woman who loves her man
I’m not familiar with this song, but I really like the sound and beat
I’m somewhat familiar with it. It was a hit song for the Beatles, though not as big as others for sure.
Really, huge hit for me. remember it as clearly as the “A” side 🙂
