The Frozen showstopper ‘Let it Go’ predictably won the Oscar a few nights ago, but its win was overshadowed by John Travolta’s hilarious bungling of performer Idina Menzel’s name.
After being introduced as “Adele Dzaeem,” Menzel seemed to struggle a bit during her performance. She appeared visibly nervous, rushed the song a bit and faltered on the last big note. I don’t know if we can pin all of that on Travolta, but I’ll do it anyway.
Here’s a clip of Menzel performing ‘Let it Go’ on Jimmy Fallon’s Tonight Show, accompanied by Fallon and house band The Roots playing children’s toys as instruments. This would have been a nice version for the Oscar ceremony.
Fallon has really taken this Tonight Show gig and run with it. He was expected to produce a lot of viral video, as he did when hosting Late Night, but the sheer volume of fun, share-worthy clips he’s released in just two weeks is amazing.
Fallon is the most likable host on TV… there is such an innocent sense of fun and goodwill in everything he does. He’s like a human Muppet.
Not a footprint to be seen
A kingdom of isolation
And it looks like I’m the queen
The wind is howling like this swirling storm inside
Couldn’t keep it in, Heaven knows I tried
Don’t let them in, don’t let them see
Be the good girl you always have to be
Conceal, don’t feel, don’t let them know
Well, now they know
Let it go, let it go
Can’t hold it back anymore
Let it go, let it go
Turn away and slam the door
I don’t care what they’re going to say
Let the storm rage on
The cold never bothered me anyway
It’s funny how some distance makes everything seem small
And the fears that once controlled me can’t get to me at all
It’s time to see what I can do
To test the limits and break through
No right, no wrong, no rules for me
I’m free
Let it go, let it go
I’m one with the wind and sky
Let it go, let it go
You’ll never see me cry
Here I stand and here I’ll stay
Let the storm rage on
My power flurries through the air into the ground
My soul is spiraling in frozen fractals all around
And one thought crystallizes like an icy blast
I’m never going back, the past is in the past
Let it go, let it go
And I’ll rise like the break of dawn
Let it go, let it go
That perfect girl is gone
Here I stand in the light of day
Let the storm rage on
The cold never bothered me anyway
I think you have broken a SOTD record for most posts on a single song.😄
It’s funny and ironic how much better she sounds here than she did on the Oscars. I don’t think the subpar Oscar performance can be blamed on Travolta, though one look at that fake black hair could throw anyone off her game.😄
As for Fallon, I’ve only seen the first few shows, but I’m so glad he is doing well. Such a nice guy and so talented.
I need to watch more of Fallon’s show, he really does have such great “YouTube worthy” moments on there. This version is so great and I am glad to see it becoming popular!
Does she always sound so nasal? Not sure I’m a huge fan of hers especially with this song. Anyway, glad that Fallon is doing a good job; just saw the very first show and thought he did very well.
Adina is somewhat nasal but this performance seems more exaggerated. I love Jimmy Fallon. He is so funny and his musical imitations are dead on. Have you all seen History of Rap 1 & 2 with Timberlake? The best thing ever…
