Song of the Day #4,525: ‘Heart of Glass (Live)’ – Miley Cyrus
One of the many downsides of COVID-19 is that it blew up my vacation plans. My family had planned a two-week trip to Hawaii that has been postponed to (I hope) next summer.
I know, a quarter million people are dead and the virus is entering its worst phase yet, so I’m not complaining! I’m extremely lucky (knock on wood) that altered plans and a brief work furlough are my biggest losses to this global scourge.
Song of the Day #4,024: ‘On a Roll’ – Ashley O
At risk of turning this into a Miley Cyrus blog, I have one more of her songs to share. In this case, she is performing in character as Ashley O, a Britney Spears-like pop star at the center of the new Black Mirror episode ‘Rachel, Jack and Ashley Too.’
As with most Black Mirror episodes, the less said about the plot the better, so I’ll just note that Cyrus plays Ashley O, a teen idol who has just released an Alexa-like robot device called Ashley Too so her fans can have their own mini-Ashley companion.
Song of the Day #4,023: ‘Mother’s Daughter’ – Miley Cyrus
I don’t know if Miley Cyrus’ collaboration with Mark Ronson will appear on her upcoming album, but the latest sneak peek at that release (in the form of an EP titled SHE IS COMING) suggests it will be worth listening to regardless.
SHE IS COMING is the first in a series of three planned EPs leading up to the album release. The next will be SHE IS HERE, followed by SHE IS EVERYTHING, all leading up to the album, titled SHE IS MILEY CYRUS. This is a similar release strategy to the one John Mayer used for his album The Search for Everything, when he dropped the album’s first eight songs over two EPs before releasing the full album.
Song of the Day #3,961: ‘Nothing Breaks Like a Heart’ – Mark Ronson feat. Miley Cyrus
British DJ/producer Mark Ronson has a new album due later this year, including contributions from Lykke Li, Camila Cabello, Alicia Keys and others.
Ronson’s last album, 2015’s Uptown Special, featured ‘Uptown Funk,’ the brilliant collaboration with Bruno Mars that dominated charts and is destined to be a dance floor staple for decades to come.
