Song of the Day #2,667: ‘Tennessee Whiskey (Live)’ – Chris Stapleton & Justin Timberlake

stapleton_timberlakeI always mean to watch the Country Music Awards but usually I forget. It’s an entertaining show, with the winning duo of Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood as hosts and plenty of memorable performances.

And as artists such as Kacey Musgraves, Ashley Monroe and Brandy Clark join Miranda Lambert and Paisley among my favorites, the number of acts worth watching goes up.

Song of the Day #2,279: ‘Let’s Take a Ride’ – Justin Timberlake

justin_timberlake_justifiedHere’s a track from Justin Timberlake’s debut solo album, Justified, released in 2002.

Like most of the album, the track was co-written by Timberlake, Chad Hugo and Pharrell Williams. I believe this is the first time I’ve heard the song, and god willing, it will be the last.

Song of the Day #2,224: ‘Cry Me a River’ – Justin Timberlake

justin_timberlake_justifiedI was shocked to realize I’d never featured Justin Timberlake’s ‘Cry Me a River’ on the blog. It’s the one song on Timberlake’s solo debut, Justified, that I like.

Song of the Day #2,151: ‘Not a Bad Thing’ – Justin Timberlake

timberlake_20_20At the ninth spot on Billboard’s Hot 100 is Justin Timberlake’s love song ‘Not a Bad Thing.’

I tend to think of Timberlake as an actor more than a musician. I’ve enjoyed his work in Saturday Night Live and Inside Llewyn Davis more than anything I’ve heard from his albums.

Still, there’s no doubt he’s a multi-talented performer.

Song of the Day #2,033: ‘Mirrors’ – Justin Timberlake

justin_timberlake_20_20I’m continuing my recap of the Village Voice Pazz & Jop poll this week, I hope with less Kanye West.

Clocking in at #11 is Justin Timberlake’s ‘Mirrors,’ the second single from his album The 20/20 Experience.

I like Timberlake more as an actor and a Saturday Night Live performer than a musical act. I’m just not all that into his brand of smooth R&B.
