Song of the Day #6,331: ‘Please Mr. Kennedy’ – The John Glenn Singers

The Coen Brothers have always made wonderful use of music in their movies. I could do a whole series on their best musical moments (and trust me, I just wrote that down as an idea for the future).

While it’s impossible to name a favorite Coen Brothers movie, I have 2013’s Inside Llewyn Davis atop my personal ranking of their films. The chronicle of a failed folk musician is sad, funny, and beautiful in all the best ways. And in addition to some folk classics, it features a great new song by a fictional band.

Song of the Day #5,524: ‘Holy Grail’ – Jay-Z feat. Justin Timberlake

Throwing back to the week of August 17, 2013, we’re once again going deep into the top ten before finding a song I haven’t featured.

Song of the Day #5,391: ‘(And She Said) Take Me Now’ – Justin Timberlake

The Random iTunes Fairy must have been a little sore about my comments dissing Justin Timberlake two weekends ago because she’s serving up another helping from his 2002 debut solo album, Justified.

Song of the Day #5,370: ‘Never Again’ – Justin Timberlake

Last Sunday, I asked for thoughts on how to proceed with weekend posts as Random Weekends passes its 11th anniversary.

The consensus was nearly unanimous: a return to Ron Sexsmith Weekends. Stay tuned next week for a deep dive into his earlier, unreleased material.

All kidding aside, so far I’ve heard suggestions to keep things as they are, to serve up a ‘classic rewind’ feature, or to limit the random selections to new artists rather than music already in my collection.

Song of the Day #2,893: ‘Can’t Stop the Feeling!’ – Justin Timberlake

timberlake_cant_stop_feelingJustin Timberlake returns to the Billboard charts with ‘Can’t Stop the Feeling!,’ currently sitting in the third spot on the Hot 100 (though it previously occupied the top spot).

This is Timberlake’s first song on the charts (or period, I believe) since early 2014. It was written for the Timberlake-produced animated film Trolls, in which he also appears as a voice actor.
