Song of the Day #5,753: ‘Lovin On Me’ – Jack Harlow

Jack Harlow occupies the fifth spot of Billboard’s Hot 100 with ‘Lovin On You,’ a non-album single the rapper released in November. It reached #1 last year, giving him his second solo chart topper and third overall, and has hung around in the top five ever since.

This is a catchy tune that makes good use of a sample of ‘Whatever (Bass Soliloquy)’ by Detroit R&B performer Cadillac Dale. Dale, now a grandfather who hadn’t made a splash since the 90s, was surprised to find himself as a credited songwriter on a #1 hit.

Song of the Day #5,135: ‘First Class’ – Jack Harlow

In the second spot of the Billboard Hot 100 this week is Lizzo’s ‘About Damn Time,’ which I featured a couple of weeks back. This is another song that can thank TikTok for its ascension.

Lizzo’s track has been on the chart for 13 weeks and (so far) peaked at #2. Perhaps she can nab her second #1 song (following ‘Truth Hurts’) if this one can climb one more spot in coming weeks.

Song of the Day #4,731: ‘Killer (Remix)’ – Eminem, Jack Harlow & Cordae

I was a big Eminem fan through his first three albums. The Slim Shady LP, The Marshall Mathers LP and The Eminem Show are all classic examples of his writing and rapping skills forming a perfect marriage with his subject matter.

That subject matter weaved between his personal demons and the societal impact of his work, and he had provocative things to say about both.
