Bleachers is a side project by Jack Antonoff the drummer, lead guitarist and backup vocalist of fun. In addition to his high-profile work with that band, Antonoff is the boyfriend of Girls‘ Lena Dunham, so he’s no stranger to publicity.

Song of the Day #2,069: ‘Love Letters’ – Metronomy

metronomyAnother band mentioned briefly in the current Rolling Stone, Metronomy is an English electronica band that only recently added vocals to their repertoire.

‘Love Letters,’ the title song from their latest album, is an intriguing (though repetitive) little New Wave number. It’s catchy in a lo-fi, give them points for trying kind of way.

Song of the Day #2,068: ‘Silver Timothy’ – Damien Jurado

damienjurado2744I recently heard, during a discussion about marketing, that when you are promoting a product or service, right around the moment you are borderline nauseated by the sheer volume of references you’ve thrown at your audience… that’s when they’ve noticed it for the very first time.

Most of what you say disappears into the ether. Only the bruisingly persistent are ever heard.

Song of the Day #2,066: ‘Milk & Honey’ – Beck

midnitevulturesLast week I bought Beck’s new album, Morning Phase, a sequel of sorts to 2002’s sublime break-up record Sea Change.

Morning Phase has the same somber tone and cry-in-your-beer lyrical style as Sea Change but goes in some different melodic and production directions, with some of its songs reminding me of everything from Simon & Garfunkel to Pink Floyd.
