It’s been five years since Fountains of Wayne’s last album release, Sky Full of Holes.
Quick visits to the band’s website, social media accounts and Wikipedia page reveal very little information about their current activities. They don’t appear to have split up but neither are they touring or recording. I hope they haven’t split up, because these guys are among the bets pop songwriters going.
Here’s a nice song from John Legend’s 2004 album, Get Lifted. I can’t say much more about it than that.
I like Legend well enough through his many talk show and award show appearances, but I’ve never taken the time to listen to any of his music.
I’m surprised that this is the first track from Kate Bush’s 1985 album Hounds of Love I’ve featured on the blog. Through nearly 3,000 songs, I would have expected at least the great ‘Running Up That Hill’ to have its moment in the spotlight.
The truth is, I’ve only really gotten into the first handful of songs on the record, but they’re all great. Perhaps my favorite of all of them is today’s random selection, ‘Mother Stands For Comfort.’
During the 2000s, Brad Paisley put out five or six albums that were just chock full of great, fun songs like today’s Random iTunes Selection.
‘Easy Money’ is catchy, funny and sly like so much of Paisley’s work. Songs like this feel like they were written and recorded in a day, and I mean that as a compliment.
Here’s one of those fun cases where the birthday of a loved one falls on a Random Weekend.
It gives me a chance to play my favorite musical game, wherein I say “whatever song plays next will sum up the rest of your life” or “whatever song plays next describes our marriage” and so on.
So, whatever song plays next is dedicated to my lovely daughter Fiona, who turns 10 today.
