Song of the Day #4,487: ‘Hay un amigo en mi’ – Gipsy Kings

Continuing my countdown of every Pixar movie…

#1. Toy Story 3 (2010)
(up one spot from previous ranking)

I’ve written about this film twice on the blog already, once when it first came out and again earlier this year, as part of my countdown of favorite films of the 2010s (it was #9).

I’m providing links to both of those posts above and won’t bother repeating all of my points here.

Suffice it to say that Toy Story 3 is as funny, exciting, ingenious and touching as any Pixar film, and even more thematically rich.

It also feels right to have a Toy Story movie in the top spot of this list. This is Pixar’s defining series, the one that started it all and the one that has delivered consistently over the studio’s 25-year history.

This countdown has stirred up some great conversation. No two people have the same Pixar ranking, which is a testament to the greatness of their output. I’d love to see your own rankings below (or at least your top five).

Finally, I look forward to the studio’s next film, Soul, which will be released to Disney Plus on Christmas Day. It’s a shame that Pixar’s first movie with a Black lead won’t get a theatrical release, but I’m glad I’ll be able to see it without risking my life.

Hay un amigo en mí
Hay un amigo en mí
Cuando salgan a volar
Hay un amigo en mí
Sí, un amigo en mí
Hay un amigo en mí

Hay un amigo en mí
Hay un amigo en mí
Cuando salgan a volar
Hay un amigo en mí
Sí, un amigo en mí
Hay un amigo en mí

Hay muchos que pueden ser
Un poco más listos
Mas nunca habrá quien pueda ser
Un amigo fiel
Que tú lo sabes

Los años pasarán
Lo nuestro no morirá
Lo vas a ver, mejor tener
Un buen amigo en mí
Hay un amigo en mí
Un buen amigo en mí
Hay un amigo en mí

We’ve been discussing how to most effectively rewatch many (all?!) of these films in order to provide a proper current ranking. Until that day, my top 5 would likely include Toy Story 2, The Incredibles, and Finding Nemo as the three I can’t fathom would budge from the top spots regardless of the number of times I watched them. The final two spots have bounced around a bit as I’ve gone down memory lane reading your blog these past weeks. Vying for the spots (and, therefore, rounding out my top 8) would surely be Toy Story, Coco, Cars, Monsters, Inc., and Inside Out.
I anticipate Ratatouille would be up here, too. And I’m going to reserve a space for Soul ;p. As we revisit some of these films, I’ll pop back and update if necessary. Thanks for the fun ride down memory lane of some truly amazing films.

I have no major disagreement with TS3 being top tier Pixar, but i do take exception to it being number one, particularly where you have relegated TS1 and TS2 to mid tier status.

As for my list? I suppose my top 5 would look something like this:
    5. Inside Out
    4. Toy Story 2
    3. Toy Story
    2. Finding Nemo
    1.The Incredibles

Yes this is the review that made me cry and still does 😢❤️

Loved reading your list! I know we have some big placement disagreements, but the Pixar love is strong and that’s what really matters. Also, for Spanish Buzz alone, I can understand why this is the top of your list lol. My top 5 (as you know):

    5. Monsters Inc
    4. Toy Story
    3. Toy Story 2
    2. Finding Nemo
    1. The Incredibles
