Pharrell Williams’ ‘Happy‘ sits at #13 on Village Voice’s Pazz & Jop poll, followed by St. Vincent’s ‘Digital Witness.’
St. Vincent has been kicking around for a few years now, producing interesting videos and collaborating with fellow oddball David Byrne. But her latest, self-titled, album has received her best reviews to date and topped many a critic’s year-end list.
I generally like what I hear from her, though I have never bought one of her albums or songs. Today’s track has a nice feel to it, with the horns making the David Byrne influence as clear as ever.
Get back to your seats
Get back, gnashing teeth
Ohh, I want all of your mind
[Pre-Chorus]:
People turn the TV on it looks just like a window
Yeah
People turn the TV on it looks just like a window
Yeah
[Chorus]:
Digital witnesses
What’s the point of even sleeping
If I can’t show it if you can’t see me
What’s the point of doing anything?
[Post-Chorus]:
This is no time for confessing
Hmm
I want all of your mind
[Pre-Chorus]
[Chorus]:
Digital witnesses
What’s the point of even sleeping
If I can’t show if you can’t see me
Watch me jump right off the London Bridge
[Post-Chorus]:
This is no time for confessing
[Verse 2]:
People turn the TV on and throw it out the window yeah
Get back to your stare I care but I don’t care
Oh oh oh I want all of your mind
Gimme all of your mind
I want all of your mind
Gimme all of it
[Chorus]:
Digital witnesses
What’s the point of even sleeping?
If I can’t show it if you can’t see me?
What’s the point of doing anything?
What’s the point of even sleeping?
So I stopped sleeping yeah I stopped sleeping
Won’t somebody sell me back to me?
I am really digging this song. If the rest of her stuff is this good, I would definitely be interested in hearing more.
I dig it the most!
Did you see her performances on SNL this weekend? They have me utterly fascinated by her. Maybe another artist to explore in the future?
