Song of the Day #2,248: ‘A Simple Design’ – The Juan Maclean

the_juan_macleanSpeaking of musical genres I don’t get, here’s a dance track.

I completely understand how a song like this works in a club setting. You want background music with a good beat and a good sound that puts you in a particular tuned-out mindset.

There’s a reason they call it trance music.

But away from the club (where I spend 100% of my life), I have no need for dance music. I find nothing quite as boring.

In fact, I must admit I didn’t even make it all the way through today’s SOTD. So if something amazing happens after the 3:30 mark, please let me know in the comments.

It takes a lot of effort
To hold on to all your rules
It can take years to fight movement
It can take years off you!

Out I’ve been good intentions
While nothing a waiting game
It’s been 3 years of then holding the wrath,
But holding on is something wrong

Time after time, when what you’re hoping to find
Is not a SIMPLE DESIGN, but a headache
When everything you’ve built comes falling down
But if you open your mind to a slippery life
When that’s look for the time
When that’s ready
and everything you need falls to you!

[Electronic vibes]

If like to consider the measure
Measure the risk of reward
What makes you think they will love you?!
They just wanna love you more
Take up your sleep in giant
Wake up your terracell
They’ve let the path and you’re well on your way
You’ll FIGHT THIS TIME

Time after time, when what you’re hoping to find
Is not a SIMPLE DESIGN, but a headache
and everything you’ve built comes falling down
But if you open your mind to a slippery life
When that’s look for the time
When that’s ready,
And everything you need falls to you!

Falls to you, falls to you
It’s all on you
Falls to you, falls to you ready
It’s all on you
Falls to you, falls to you ready
That’s all on you, ready
Falls to you, falls to you ready
That’s all on you, ready

Time after time, when what you’re hoping to find
Is not a SIMPLE DESIGN, but a headache
When everything you’ve built comes falling down
But if you open your mind to a slippery life
When that’s look for the time
When that’s ready
And everything you need falls to you

I’m not sure this qualifies as trance music, mostly because it has lyrics and some varied instrumentation. I suppose, however, it qualifies as dance music.

Unlike you, I spend most of my nights clubbing. And when I need to dance to a sick beat, this is exactly the type of music I crave. 🙂

Oh, and it’s a shame you didn’t listen past the 3:30 mark. There is a total mood shift at 3:45 to a blues/jazz vibe with Clapton on guitar and Randy Newman on piano and vocals.:)

I agree that this “trance” music is awful and for some reason restaurants like to blast this music (minus lyrics) and it’s so annoying. This is not a song 🙂

Dana, which clubs? I need some new ones to throw into my routine 🙂

  4. Dana says:

You know, all the usual spots on South Beach 🙂
