Song of the Day #2,240: ‘All About That Bass’ – Meghan Trainor

meghan_trainor_all_about__bassThe top three songs on the Billboard chart right now are by women, and this is after unseating the likes of Iggy Azalea and Ariana Grande, who previously dominated the top positions.

I think it’s safe to say women rule the musical world.

Also interesting: Two of the top three songs in the land are celebrations of women with big asses. That must be a first.

Following Nicki Minaj’s ‘Anaconda,’ we have the much tamer ‘All About That Bass’ by Meghan Trainor. Trainor is a 20 year-old singer-songwriter from the mean streets of Nantucket and Cape Cod, Massachusetts, and probably the unlikeliest person to score a hit with a song about her “big booty.”

Trainor’s song is more of an innocent self-esteem boost than a raunchfest like ‘Anaconda,’ and its verses are almost tuneful (though the chorus is grating as hell).

‘All About That Bass’ wins this round of the ass-off, by more than just a cheek.

[Chorus]
Because you know I’m all about that bass
’bout that bass, no treble
I’m all ’bout that bass, ’bout that bass, no treble
I’m all ’bout that bass, ’bout that bass, no treble
I’m all ’bout that bass, ’bout that bass

[Verse 1]
Yeah it’s pretty clear, I ain’t no size two
But I can shake it, shake it like I’m supposed to do
Cause I got that boom boom that all the boys chase
All the right junk in all the right places
I see the magazines working that Photoshop
We know that shit ain’t real
Come on now, make it stop
If you got beauty beauty just raise ’em up
Cause every inch of you is perfect
From the bottom to the top

[Pre-Chorus]
Yeah, my momma she told me don’t worry about your size
She says, boys they like a little more booty to hold at night
You know I won’t be no stick-figure, silicone Barbie doll
So, if that’s what’s you’re into then go ahead and move along

[Chorus]

[Verse 2]
I’m bringing booty back
Go ahead and tell them skinny bitches, “Hey”
No, I’m just playing I know you think you’re fat
But I’m here to tell you that

[Pre-Chorus]
Every inch of you is perfect from the bottom to the top
Yeah, my momma she told me don’t worry about your size
She says, boys they like a little more booty to hold at night
You know I won’t be no stick-figure, silicone Barbie doll
So, if that’s what’s you’re into, then go ahead and move along

[Chorus x3]

I must confess that I find it odd that blonde white women are moving into, let alone dominating, the hip hop landscape. But, hey, if Eminem can do it, and arguably do it better than every other Black rapper, then I suppose why not?

    I agree that today’s song wins the ass-off by a cheek.😜

    There are no words

I can’t decide if this is a feminist anthem or a misogynist’s dream? Or maybe both? Regardless, it sure is catchy.

  4. Andrea Katz says:

Super popular at our house. We love it!
