Song of the Day #1,815: ‘Somewhere Over the Rainbow (Live)’ – Rufus Wainwright

rufusI suppose every self-respecting gay singer must tackle ‘Somewhere Over the Rainbow’ at some point.

Rufus Wainwright took it a step further, actually recreating Judy Garland’s legendary Carnegie Hall concert song for song in his own appearance at the venue.

Today’s recording is not from that concert but from a bootleg of a more traditional concert.

Somewhere over the rainbow, way up high
There’s a land that I heard of once in a lullaby
Somewhere over that rainbow, skies are blue
And the dreams that you dare to dream really do come true

Someday I’ll wish upon a star and wake up where the clouds are far behind me
Where troubles melt like lemon drops high above the chimney tops
That’s where you’ll find me

Somewhere over the rainbow, bluebirds fly
Birds fly over that rainbow
Why, oh, why can’t I?
If happy little bluebirds fly above the rainbow
Why, oh, why can’t I?

Frankly, I can barely tolerate his voice when he is doing his own original works. No need to subject myself to him singing covers.😄
